Personal Memento is a family business based in Rotherham owned by Yvette Lowery and her daughter, Chloe Wilkin
“I decided to create Personal Memento as there are many occasions when I wish I had a written record of memories I shared with loved ones. With the advent of technology it is easier now to communicate through email, text and social media, however I feel that, on many occasions, the "soul" has gone out of our communication. We store photographs on our computers and smart phones, but what if the computer or phone crashes and these images become obsolete?
Before passing away four years ago my mum was elderly and her memory was failing, so my first project was with my mum. Together we created her unique story, which I completed following her death, and this is something that I will treasure now, and in the future. My children will learn more about their grandma, and future grandchildren will have a real insight into who she was, and how she lived her life. It is a gift that will have a profound effect on us all, a celebration of her life and an interesting legacy that will stay in the family for future generations.” (Yvette Lowery)
“We’re all aware that we will outlive our Grandparents but nothing ever prepares us for it when they pass. Growing up, I was very close to my Grandma. I was quite young when she became ill so I never had the chance to discuss her life with her but now that I own one of her Personal Memento books, I know more about the amazing person she was.
It’s also interesting learning how different my life is compared to hers when she was my age. I’ve always had photographs of her but this book has more sentimental value, it’s a memory of her in one book which makes me feel closer to her. If I have children of my own, they’ll always know the effect she had on my life and when they’re old enough they can read her book and get to know her more on a personal level as she will be a part of who they are as she is a part of who I am.” (Chloe Wilkin)
